But it wasn’t just Spider-Man that Jackson was interested in. He was also a big fan of Superman, the iconic hero from DC Comics. And he was so interested in the character that he wanted to play him on the big screen.
The failed attempt to buy Marvel
In the 1990s, Marvel was in financial trouble, and Jackson saw an opportunity. He contacted Marvel with an offer to buy the company, with the intention of producing and starring in a series of superhero movies.
According to reports, Jackson met with Marvel’s executives and pitched his idea, which included a series of films starring himself as Superman. But unfortunately, Marvel wasn’t interested in selling the company, and Jackson’s plan fell through.
The King of Pop’s connection to Superman
Jackson’s love for Superman didn’t end with his failed attempt to buy Marvel. He also had a personal connection to the character, thanks to his friendship with Christopher Reeve, who played Superman in the movies of the 1970s and 1980s.
Reeve and Jackson met in the 1980s and became close friends. According to reports, Reeve even taught Jackson how to fly a plane, something that he had learned while preparing for his role as Superman.
Michael Jackson’s own attempts at superhero stardom
While Jackson never got to play Superman, he did make a few attempts to become a superhero in his own right. In the 1990s, he produced a short film called “Ghosts,” in which he played a number of characters, including a superhero named “The Maestro.”
He also starred in the 1988 film “Moonwalker,” which featured a segment in which he transformed into a robot superhero named “Megamix.”
While Michael Jackson never got to play Superman on the big screen, his love for the character and his attempts to buy Marvel are just another example of his creative and ambitious spirit. Who knows what he might have accomplished if Marvel had agreed to his proposal?
